Glass comes in colors, interlayers come in colors, and colors and images can be printed on both to add an element of decoration to glass partitions, railings, exterior glass, and shower doors. Another way to create a buzz where the colors shift depending on the viewing angle is with dichroic films.
3M offers non-metallic, corrosion-free dichroic films in Gold-Blue and Copper-Bronze. These films are laminated between two plies of interlayer in a glass laminate. The Gold-Blue film goes from yellow to magenta to blue in transmission. In reflection, a head-on view will appeas gold, while an angled view appears blue. In addition, the Copper-Bronze Dichroic Film shifts from magenta to blue to aqua in transmission, and in reflection appears copper when viewed head-on and bronze at an angle.
Dichroic window films are also available. These films are applied to the interior side of outward-facing glass. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is used to bond the film to the glass.
