New Columbia Business School Features Laminated Glass Railing & Windscreen

Bent Glass Design is working with W&W Glass on two buildings that are part of the new Columbia Business School located on the university’s Manhattanville campus.  The company has fabricated exterior laminated glass for a railing and six-foot tall, laminated windscreen glass for an exterior terrace.  Design on the two buildings is led by Diller Scofidio + Renfro with FXCollaborative and associate architects AARRIS ATEPA Architects.

Laminated Railing Glass

The railing glass is comprised of two plies of 12mm low iron flat tempered glass laminated with a 1.52mm SentryGlas® ionoplast interlayer.  The curved glass is unique because it is also bent tempered laminated, made with two plies of 10mm low iron glass and an ionoplast interlayer.  According to Michael Haber, Managing Partner at W&W, “Bent Glass Design’s expertise in bending and tempering curved glass with challenging radius and girth dimensions, enabled us to fulfill the architects’ design objective.”

W&W Glass is the leading glazing contractor in the New York City construction market for the installation of complex curtain wall façade systems and custom all glass enclosures.  W&W is also the exclusive distributor of the Pilkington Planar™ point-supported glass systems to glazing contractors throughout North America.
